About Elizabeth Hemen

Elizabeth’s Story

Elizabeth A. Hemen is a mother of three, a grandmother of nine, and a great-grandmother of eight. She grew up in a small town in Minnesota, being the youngest of five kids. She graduated from St. Cloud State University with a degree in elementary education. She taught for 30 years in Minnesota and South Dakota. The greatest joy in Betty’s life was her time spent with her children and the children she was privileged to have taught.

She married her cowboy husband, Merrill, in 1958, who became her best friend and greatest cheerleader. And Betty always supported Merrill in his ranching endeavors. After many wonderful years on the farm, Betty and Merrill moved to Aberdeen because of Merrill’s declining health.

Betty wrote the book “Betsy and the Cowboy”, which is not published, as a fun way of re-telling their lives together for family to enjoy. Writing has always been a passion of Betty’s. She writes many letters and cards to people each week. In 2011, Betty wrote the children’s book,  Snowman Finds His Heart, (currently unavailable) and in 2012, she wrote the sequel, Snowman Shares His Heart. These books were brought to life through illustrations done by the talented Laura L. Bunke.

Betty’s latest book, God’s Gift of Trees, a childrens’ picture activity book, is now published and can be purchased on the Books page. This book has become a reality with the help of Mark and Robbin Sieler. May God bless all who read this book.
